Why is SEIU Trying to Tear Us Apart?
July 15th, 2008SEIUVOICE TV | LIVE BLOG | DOCUMENTS | PHOTO SLIDESHOW
On July 14-15, thousands of healthcare workers will converged in Southern California to support uniting all healthcare workers in the state into a single union. This is the latest front in our UHW members' fight to reform SEIU and ensure democracy within the labor movement. SEIU is holding a sham hearing Monday and Tuesday that could determine the future of California’s healthcare workers. UHW members and supporters will march and rally outside the hearing, and testify inside in support of our plan for One Healthcare Union in the state.
This hearing is crucial, because SEIU is pushing for an alternate proposal to split hospital and long-term care workers into separate unions. It's also likely that SEIU will try to strip 65,000 workers out of UHW through a rigged and undemocratic voting process.
